These tournaments are one-weekend tournaments generally starting on Friday after school and ending on Sunday. Contra Costa will be playing a single elimination format with a back draw for those that lose their first match – two matches guaranteed. Each tournament will field divisions in Boys and Girls 10’s, 12’s, 14’s and 16’s. The number of entries will be limited due to the one weekend nature of the tournaments, and entries will be determined by date of arrival.
Points will be awarded for each round a junior participant advances in both the main and back draws. Juniors can click on the link below to follow their point standings. The top 12 point earners for each age division at the end of the regular season will be eligible to play in the Tournament of Champions (TOC). The format for the TOC will be single elimination.
One of the exciting aspects of the USPTA Junior Circuit is that coaching is allowed for juniors by a designated coach (i.e. pro or parent). At the time of player check-in, the designated coach must also check in at the tournament desk to be official. All coaching will be done at the fence during changeovers (no coach is allowed on the court). No other tournament circuit has this unique feature.
Who is eligible to play?
Any junior who has been or is ranked in the top 60 (1–60) in Northern California is not eligible to play in the USPTA Junior Circuit in any age division. All other juniors are eligible. USTA membership is required.
The USPTA Junior Circuit is a series of tournaments created to introduce less experienced junior players to competition and allow them to prepare for higher-level tournament play. The junior circuit is currently offered only in Contra Costa. The 2012-2013 circuit will be played during the school year starting in September of 2012 and ending in May of 2013 with the Tournament of Champions in June of 2013 at St. Mary’s College in Moraga.
